FAQ: Scuba Diving Lessons & Certifications
Do I need to be an expert swimmer to start?
No. You must tread water for 10 minutes and swim 200 yards without stopping, but speed or style doesn’t matter.
How long does the Open Water course take?
Most students finish in two weekends: one for pool skills, one for ocean dives. Accelerated weekday schedules are available in the summer.
Is all equipment included in the price?
Try Scuba includes everything. Certification courses include tanks and weights; students supply personal gear (mask, snorkel, fins, boots). Packages are discounted for enrolled students.
What is SSI, and is the card global?
Scuba Schools International (SSI) is a worldwide training agency. Your card is accepted at dive centers and resorts around the world.
How soon can I dive after certification?
Immediately! Many graduates join our Catalina trips the very next weekend to log their first certified dives.
